WHAT IS PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM?

The Partnership Program lets schools and community-based organizations bring a multi-week, customized leadership class to the young women and gender expansive youth they work with. Based on our “Siblinghood Academy'' curriculum, we work with organizations to tailor the workshop series for an impactful, energizing experience focused on exploring and building identity, community, and leadership.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

The Partnership Program is especially committed to serving harder to reach young adults — like young parents, court involved youth, over-aged/under-credited students, LGBTQIGNC youth, and young people in neighborhoods and communities that do not typically have access to these resources. SNLP has the ability to provide in person and virtual programming and will work closely with schools to determine the best approach for students.

To participate in the Partnership Program, your organization should:

  • Be based in one of the 5 boroughs of NYC or in Newark

  • Be committed to enrolling at least 10 young women and/or gender-expansive youth ages 11-22 in each class

  • Enable the class to run for at least an hour per session, for at least 10 sessions

  • Offer the class either during school hours, after school hours, or on Saturdays

ORGANIZATIONS WE’VE PARTNERED WITH:

  • Renaissance Charter School

    During our 10+ year relationship with RCS our programming has followed cohorts of students through all 4 years of their high school experience. The journey begins in 9th grade with a curriculum focused on leadership skills and wellness.

  • North Star Academy

    Since 2019 we’ve served students tasked with exploring what learning looks like beyond a traditional classroom setting by designing classes driven by their interests and supporting them as they become leaders in their school community.

  • New Settlement Community Center

    Each year Nashers explore social justice themes, making connections to how their lived experience in the Bronx intersects with these topics. To close the year they create a final project about a change they’d like to see in their community. In 2021 Nashers examined social justice through an environmental justice lens.

  • City-As-School High School

    In an internship setting Nashers envision possibilities for their life after high school and explore options for their post-secondary journey. Our curriculum builds career skills and challenges unjust dynamics that exist in professional spaces by discussing identity, power, and privilege in the workplace.

  • WHEELS

    We help middle-school Nashers create strong bonds with their peers. Our program is designed to increase self-esteem and self-confidence, explore what healthy relationships with friends and family look like, and share strategies for managing stress.

  • International High School, LaGuardia Community College

    IHS Nashers bring a unique perspective as newcomers to the United States. Our program explores how art can be advocacy. We use visual pieces as a jumping-off point to have discussions about racial and gender justice — and support their English language development in the process.
